Born in 1956 in Casablanca, Morocco, José Nicolas started his photographer career for a local newspaper and for various humanitarian organisations such as Médecins du monde. This allowed him to travel with Bernard Kouchner to various parts of the world including Kurdistan, Afghanistan, Lebanon etc.

For 12 years, José Nicolas has worked with the Sipa-Press agency in Paris, covering numerous conflicts (Chad, Liberia in 1990, Lebanon 1984-1986, Afghanistan, the Romaninan Revolution in 1989, Bosnia between 1991 and 1996, Somalia in 1992-1993).

Since 1996 José Nicolas works as a freelance photographer for newspapers, magazines and publishing houses. Over the years his work has received many international awards and internationally exhibited.
