What is a photograph? What is an exhibition, a photobook? These questions have followed me for a long time.
I’ve often felt that photography becomes something we observe from a distance—something we think about rather than feel. That’s where my drive lies. I want to find a way to make images that are not only understood, but truly felt.
When I compare it to film and music, I’m struck by how directly they can reach us. They go straight in, before there’s time to analyze. Photography often stops at recognition or interpretation. I want it to come closer than that. To hit a bit harder.
For me, it’s not about abandoning the conceptual. I still want to think, to explore, to build ideas. But I also want the image to carry something else—a presence, a feeling, something that can’t quite be put into words.
