Celeste is a Kimberley-born, Cape Town-based writer and photographer, with a background in psychology. Her images celebrate nostalgia and embrace sentimentality while pursuing spaces that evoke a sense of calm in a fast-paced world. Behind her lens, the focus is on capturing the feeling of seeing things for the first time, multiple times and as often as possible. She's a self-taught photographer who specialises in 35mm and medium format film.
“I make photos to remind myself that there are moments of peace, even chaos, possibly especially then. It’s my way of making sense of reality. Sometimes I think we can get caught up with only believing that the negative aspects of being on this planet are true. When I make photos it’s my way of restoring balance within myself. My work is a gentle rebellion against the pace of life and the unnecessary sense of urgency that we can all sometimes get caught up in. My pieces are an attempt to show the ease and joy that comes with noticing the moments that can so easily pass us by.”
