Hong Yu (Casey) Chan is a Deaf photographer and visual artist from Hong Kong, now based in Toronto. With a background in Product Design from the Hong Kong Design Institute and more than nine years of experience in commercial and documentary photography, Yu’s work explores cultural identity, migration, memory, grief, and human connection through visual storytelling. Before moving to Canada, Yu worked as a commercial photographer and retoucher for Asian international brands, including Sa Sa Cosmetics, while also participating in community-based visual storytelling projects in Hong Kong. Since arriving in Canada, Yu has actively engaged with the local arts scene, presenting the solo exhibition Diversified Life: A Cultural Visual Journey at Assembly Hall as part of the 2025 CONTACT Photography Festival. Yu’s work has also been featured by CTV News Toronto and Sing Tao Daily. Yu is the recipient of the Toronto Arts Foundation Newcomer Artist Award. In 2026, Yu continues to expand this practice through Listening to the Pathways of the Dead, presented as part of the CONTACT Photography Festival 2026. Grounded in accessibility and inclusion, Yu uses photography to bridge cultures and amplify underrepresented voices.
