Matt is an Australian documentary and travel photographer based in Perth, Western Australia. With over two decades of experience and work spanning more than fifty countries, he focuses on capturing the human stories that exist within culture, ritual, and everyday life.
His photography is driven by connection. Working in environments that are often unpredictable and intense, Matt seeks moments of authenticity—expressions, gestures, and interactions that reveal something deeper about the human condition. His images aim to move beyond observation, drawing viewers into the emotional and physical space of the scene.
A significant part of his work has been created across South Asia, particularly in Nepal and India, where he has documented spiritual practices, festivals, and street life. Through repeated visits and long-term engagement, he has developed a body of work that reflects both immersion and respect for his subjects.
Matt’s visual style is defined by strong composition, controlled use of light, and an emphasis on atmosphere. Whether working in colour or black and white, he prioritises storytelling—using contrast, texture, and timing to create images that feel immediate and grounded in reality.
His work has been recognised in international competitions, including awards from the Mono Awards and Click West, along with commendations from Australian Photography Magazine. Alongside his photographic practice, he has led photography tours in Nepal, with proceeds supporting IGWR-Nepal, reinforcing his belief in photography as both a creative and humanitarian pursuit.
For Matt, photography is about bearing witness—creating images that connect, challenge, and endure beyond the moment they are taken.
