I was born in 1969 in a village called Sainte-Croix in Switzerland.
My parents left Italy in the 1960s, and beyond their
ability to adapt as immigrants, they instilled in me
the essence of rich and aesthetically pleasing Italian culture, whose influences
were essential to my development.
At the age of 12, with a small group of friends, we made
short films shot on Kodak Super 8 film.
We were completely self-taught; we built our own sets and costumes, we did every job, and this period was
formative and extremely stimulating for me.
As for my studies, I briefly attended the School of Decorative Arts in Geneva,
then I returned to film and theater, but
this time as an actor. Twenty short films and a few feature films later,
I felt the urge to tell stories through photography.
I realized that through images I could, after all,
attempt to tell stories about: childhood, our dreams, our travels, our phobias, our
disappointments, our daily lives, etc.
I have a project close to my heart today, in the form of a
photographic report, which would involve returning to Italy, to
the regions where my parents were born, in search of testimonies related to the
needs of migration.
Some photographers who have influenced me:
Edward Steichen, Sally Mann, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Josef Koudelka…
