Street Photography Award Editors’ Picks of September 2021

Following the results of last month’s street photography award judged by acclaimed Magnum photographer Nikos Economopoulos, we are sharing some of the competition entries that didn’t make it to the final round but impressed us by their overall strength and quality.

We discovered a great variety of street stories from all over the world and it was a pleasure to see photographers respond to the theme in so many ways. Daily scenes showing tenderness within family situations, candid moments of friendship, meticulously timed and framed scenes, and unexpected situations.

Photographers have shown versatility and a great eye for composition using both classic and experimental technics, through digital and film cameras and we’re delighted to feature the 12 artists presented here.

“Local Music Band” - Spain
The essay ‘The Iberians’ focused on my travels in Portugal and Spain throughout the first two decades of the 21st century. Visually narrating the things that happen while wandering around Iberia, how to write in a sketchbook. Knowing a specific territory gives depth and meaning to my project; that is why my work is a continuous journey through Spain and Portugal. These are places where I explore the concepts of territory, borders, light, memory, and identity through observing the other. © Candy Lopesino

In a city known for its congestion, I wanted to capture a sense of calm and serenity whilst maintaining the feel of being in a city environment. © Christopher Lim
