“Finding Your Compass II”- L’Escala Spain, 2025
Change is exhilarating: it is about embracing the unknown and stepping into uncharted territory. This series reflects a journey requiring love, patience, and courage, a testament to exploration and self-discovery. Dance functions as a metaphor for the road, improvisation as a means to navigate uncertainty, and movement as a compass for life and art alike. The work also emerged from a conscious pause, a temporary withdrawal from constant productivity. In a culture that values visible contribution, stillness can feel almost transgressive. Yet within this quiet space, The Art of Doing Nothing became a practice of attention: a way to listen, reconnect, and allow new perspectives to surface. Rather than depicting pain directly, the series transforms lived experience into gestures of beauty, color, and movement. Stillness is not absence but a generative force, offering resilience, compassion, and the possibility of imagining more inclusive ways of being. © Milette Raats

“Stillness in Gold” - Sumba Island, Indonesia
Captured in Sumba Island in August 2024, these mangrove trees stood quietly in the shallow water as the sky softened into warm gold and peach tones. The calm water created gentle reflections, giving the scene a peaceful, almost dreamlike feel. Lingering Shadows captures a woman suspended on the cusp between visibility and disappearance — where selfhood blurs under the quiet weight of everyday repetition. Through self-portraiture and staged domestic scenes, I explore the transformation of routine into ritual and exhaustion into reflection. The restrained blue palette evokes a dual space of calm and confinement: serenity masking solitude.
