Black & White People Street Photography

I am originally from New Jersey and spent most of my life living there. I attended college in NYC and while commuting to school from New Jersey, I would often times stop at the World Trade center taking photographs of this tall steel and glass encased structure while it was being constructed. One day I decided that I would walk the streets and try photographing people, as I found people much more interesting to photograph than buildings. To me each person is a form of art, each person unique in their own way. The first picture I took was of an older construction worker digging a hole in the street. He was in the hole leaning against his shovel while taking a break. His clothes were dirty and his face heavily wrinkled from working outdoors in the sun. I photographed him using Kodak Tri-X 400 film. This was my first street photograph and I have loved street photography ever since. When my children were born there seemed to be no time between work and child rearing to walk the streets and my photography went by the wayside. There never seemed to be enough time. Fast forward 40 years and I again found myself longing for a hobby and once again picked up a camera or three and began taking photos of people in the streets. The pictures I take are mostly in NYC. There is no other city in the world that offers a photographer so much in the way of people and architecture. I find that my photographs are not only pictures of people on the streets but I am now drawn to street portraits. Now at the age of 68, I feel like I am just beginning a new life exploring the city and its people, honing my skills and enjoying photographing and meeting new people. I hope to put out a book one day about the people I have photographed.
