"Photography is a subtractive medium - in terms of both composition and exposure. We place boundaries in the form of a frame around our subject, and choose also the duration of our exposure. In another, perhaps more essential sense photography, is an additive medium: in that we begin, always, with darkness. And contained by it - the sensor or film.
