I am an independent filmmaker and in 2022 (at the age of 51), frustrated at the time it was taking to get movies made I started shooting street photos. Weirdly, I'd always done it throughout my life. Even as a teen. But it was intuitive. I never really knew about the street photography world that existed - as a dedicated art form and practice. Suddenly, the world opened up to me and I quickly had to find a way of taking shots on the street without being screamed at. I trained as an actor in my youth and I am a good improviser. So I found a way of performing out there, to be invisible. Each time I go out, I'm excited. When I am shooting on the street, I am excited. When I come home and open up the shots, I am excited. When I get photos into the light box, I am excited. This is how it feels to make a movie, by the way. But the difference is that I am not waiting 10 years to feel excited. I can get excited every single day of my life. I don't care about recognition or exhibitions or books. I'd like to put a book together but maybe after 10 years of doing this - really something for my kids.
