Judge: Christopher Anderson
Canadian-born photographer, Christopher Anderson, first gained recognition in the year 2000, for his images which he captured onboard a handmade, wooden boat filled with Haitian refugees attempting to reach the USA. The boat, named The Believe In God, sank off the coast of Florida, but thankfully, the crew members (including Anderson) were rescued by the local coastguard, and the photographer would go on to receive the Robert Capa Gold Medal for his work.
He went on to photograph for Newsweek and National Geographic, documenting conflict zones across the globe, for which he earned international acclaim and accolades, including, two World Press Photo Awards and Magazine Photographer of the Year. He was made a member of Magnum Photos in 2005, and in 2011, became New York Magazine’s first ever Photographer in Residence. He has published four monographs and exhibited across the globe. His current work traverses genres, including documentary, fine art, portraiture, and fashion.
