“End of the word” -Yamal Peninsula, Siberia, Russia
In the Nenets language, Yamal means the end of the world. The Nenets are nomadic and move with their reindeer according to the season, following ancient Arctic migration routes. During the winter, when temperatures can drop to -50°C (-58°F) or lower, the reindeer are taken to graze in the southern forests, while in the summer, they return north. This transhumance takes the Nenets approximately 1,200 kilometers (740 miles) each year, making it one of the longest in the world. © Chiara Felmini

Shardea-Rose is a Jewish ballet dancer living in London. This photograph shows her bedside table, with a photograph of her mother as a young girl, together with photographs of her grandfather as a body builder. Partly hidden between is a letter that her grandfather wrote to her mother when she was young. “Ten Thousand Camel Riders” - Mongolia

“Cholitas luchadoras I” - Bolivia
Bolivia is a country scarred by domestic violence and plagued by machismo and abuse. Seven in ten women are victims of domestic abuse. Many Bolivian women, therefore, decide to take up wrestling. This discipline enables them to better defend themselves against male violence and assert themselves in a society where women are often victims. Every Sunday, cholitas from La Paz enter the ring and engage in fistfights. They appear in voluminous dresses with petticoats underneath, colourful scarves, long braids, and typical Bolivian bowler hats. These special clothes, which Spanish colonists forced Bolivian women to wear for centuries, are now symbols of pride and identity. The discrimination and prejudice that cholitas face in Bolivia are deep-rooted and still play a role today. © Farida Lemeatrag

Each evening in Varanasi—considered one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world—several thousand people gather on the ghats to attend the Ganga Aarti, an ancient ceremony combining chants, fire, and offerings to the sacred river. Children grow up learning the rhythms of livestock care amid arid, dusty landscapes near Juba, where access to clean water and basic services is extremely limited.
