Landscape Award Editors’ Picks of November 2022

Following the results of last month’s landscape competition, judged by German photographer Hannes Becker, the editorial team is delighted to share some images that didn’t make the final selection, but we believe, are well deserving of exposure.

This year the quality of submissions was truly outstanding, and thus, we’ve decided to expand the selection from ten images to twenty-one.

We’d like to express our gratitude to all the photographers who took the time and care to share their work with us. Thank you for reminding us of all the incredible beauty that exists within our world, and the importance of protecting and preserving our planet.

“Patagonian Light” - Torres del Paine National Park, Chile
Up to that moment, the sky was overcast and there were little chances of getting a good light. As I kept observing Grande Paine in Torres del Paine National Park, the heat from the sunlight went through the clouds, letting place to one of the most beautiful sceneries. © Rémi Bergougnoux

“North Lagoon” - Venice, Italy
The sandbanks of the Venice lagoon are typical tabular lands with their own characteristic ecosystem. The tides regulate the flow of water that enters and leaves the lagoon, forming with their natural strength minor canals, called ghebi, which connect the innermost areas to the main waterways. The ghebi have a significant role in the lagoon ecosystem, regulating the water supply both during high tides, with drainage functions, and during low tides, allowing the passage of water even in the innermost areas. © Marco Del Zotto

“Lights from the sheep’s cliffs” - Faroe Islands
Sheep are the ones who enjoy the most the Faroe Islands landscapes. While grazing on a grass that could not be greener (thanks to the automatic watering system), they must have seen a lot above these fjords. © Fabien Guittard

“Godrevy lighthouse” - Godrevy Island in St Ives Bay, Cornwall, UK
Long overdue storm shooting and was very pleased to come away with my favourites capture of Godrevy lighthouse I’ve got. I wanted to capture some detail in the swell so it was a fine game of exposure time. I think the foreground wave just made the cut and created more drama. © Benjamin Hawkins

“The Siren’s Grave” - Hvitserkur, Iceland
This shot and that stretch of the Icelandic coast made me restless for a few days. That landscape still spoke to me and I didn’t want to listen; no one loves sadness, yet it is a key to open the heart. When I realized this the restlessness disappeared and there was relief. © Stefano Balma
