“Anja” - Yamal peninsula, Siberia
Young Anja represents the new Nenets generations, a nomadic reindeer herding people living in the hostile and icy lands of the Yamal peninsula in Siberia. Not all of Anja’s peers are so lucky, she had the economic opportunity to move to the city and study. Although far away, Anja still maintains a strong bond with her family and their traditions, returning a couple of times a year to help her parents in arctic migrations. © Alessandro Malaguti

“Boy on Pilgrimage” - Andalusia, Spain
This image is from a personal project I photographed in Andalusia, Spain. Every year 6000 pilgrims make their way on horseback across dusty plains and wooded paths to the town of El Rocio. On arrival, they worship the Virgin Of El Rocio, a beautiful statue that lives inside the church in the town. During my time on the pilgrimage, I was drawn to the beautiful outfits and the elegance of the riders on horseback. © Leon Foggitt

“Anna”
This photograph opens my series of portraits drawing inspiration from the Renaissance, a period that celebrated the revival of classical artistic values and principles like harmony and proportion. Garments of that era were designed with intricate patterns, rich fabrics, and luxurious embellishments to symbolize wealth and social status. In contrast, my interpretation is set in the contemporary world, where we are engulfed in material excess and overwhelmed by visual and information stimuli. In this chaos, we yearn for a new sense of harmony and balance with our environment and ourselves. Thus, my vision of these ideals is rooted in a minimalist concept that eliminates the unnecessary, focusing solely on what is essential - finding “beauty” in simplicity. © Eva Chupikova

“Nicola in the Bückeburger traditional costume” - Germany
The photo studies show women in historical costumes. It´s part of the current discourse in The folklore collections and archives to search for contemporary photographic forms of representation. New perspectives are indispensable in the museum’s communication of folklore topics, especially in order to reach younger generations. The portrayed in the project are wearing these costumes for the first time in their lives. A new experience for today’s women. All women have different cultural backgrounds. All of them were born in Germany. Traditionally, the costume helped to create national and regional identity. In the photo work, these boundaries of traditional perception are removed, and personal thought patterns are questioned. It is only the wearer of the costume who brings it to life. The costume changes the person. Their posture and charisma change. The photographs on display are reminiscent of historical models from painting and photography. The photographic staging must also function as a document. Accordingly, the photographs and editing are carried out responsibly, with care and ethnological background knowledge. In the face of the traditional costume is a photo work in progress. © Markus Bullik
