fashion photography, luscious and surreal images, unrealistic pictures from Sois Belle by Annelie Vandendael

Sois Belle II A photography project by Annelie Vandendael

‘Sois Belle II’ pushes further the previously developed reaction towards the world of Fashion Photography as depicted in ‘Sois belle I’:

Look once — then look again. These luscious, surreal images challenge the unrealistic standards of perfection set by fashion photography, provoking playfulness rather than airbrushed beauty.

“These photos are my reaction towards the standards of Fashion Photography. Nowadays, it is no longer clear whether we are looking at “real” images or fake ones; either way, they are manipulated and photo-shopped. Torsos are lengthened, waists thinned, collarbones made cavernous and landscapes brightened. As for me, I’m much more interested in representing real people, with all of their imperfections.”

— Annelie Vandendael
