from the sunlanders series, color darkroom prints handmade by Sean Lotman

Sunlanders A photography project by Sean Lotman

“Sunlanders is something like a visual utopia. It is a vain attempt, as an American (and “alien”) to curate environment into something more splendid and mysterious beyond reality. In doing so, I hope I’ve managed to avoid the quintessential aura of Japan, the symbolic trap from which we (and the Japanese) thrive on with our beloved symbolism.

Sunlanders is a consequence of wandering and of being lost. The encounters herein (nearly all accidental), when added up, constitute a planet that only they and I, their witness, inhabit. That this represents neither Japan of the past nor present, but something beyond our dimensional reckoning of it, is the intention of this photo book. – Sean Lotman

Sunlanders contains 48 images, all color darkroom prints handmade by the author and is available for purchase here: Sunlanders
