“The Ice Way” -Ladakh region, India
It is increasingly difficult to walk the road created when the river freezes, which connects ancient monasteries that rise in the Zanskar mountains to neighboring countries. The once-safe ice sheets now deceive the inexperienced path, and the road is tinged with a clear blue that contrasts with the harsh nature of the place. Global warming has made this journey dangerous, making it difficult for the Sherpas to reach population centers where they can stock up on food, making these wonderful places increasingly isolated for several months of the year. © Alessandro Bergamini

“Waterlilie's journey” - Barisal, Bangladesh
This aerial photograph captures the journey of farmers on a boat, transporting water lilies to the market in Satla Union, a village located in Uzirpur upazila of Barisal city, Bangladesh. The village of Satla is renowned for its extensive cultivation of water lilies, which cover approximately 10,000 acres of wetlands, primarily in an area called Uttar Satla. Water lily cultivation is a major occupation for about 80% of the villagers, who are actively engaged in both cultivating and marketing these beautiful aquatic flowers. The village serves as a significant supplier of water lilies to various regions within the country. The water lily growth cycle spans four months, from August to November, in the Barishal region of Bangladesh. During this period, the landscape transforms into a vibrant display of blooming water lilies, showcasing the natural beauty and agricultural significance of the area. © Muhammad Hossain

“Water scarcity” - Sudan
Water scarcity in Africa is a dire situation and is only getting worse. As Africa’s population continues to grow and climate change continues to rob the continent of the finite resource, it is predicted that by 2025, close to 230 million Africans will be facing water scarcity, and up to 460 million will be living in water-stressed areas. Water scarcity describes the growing lack of access to water. There are two types of water scarcity: economic and physical. Economic water scarcity refers to water being inaccessible because of institutional failings that include a lack of planning, investment, and infrastructure. Physical scarcity is a byproduct of climate change and includes droughts and changes in weather patterns. Africa is dealing with both; because the continent’s population is increasing at a rapid rate, the demand for water will continue to grow and if there’s no planning and preparation to accommodate the needs of Africa’s people, economic water scarcity will continue to be a huge problem.
On the other hand, and perhaps more critically as it is not as easy to control, Africa has been dealing with some of the most severe droughts it has ever seen as the world continues to report hotter and hotter years as a result of climate change. Lakes and rivers that used to supply ample amounts of water are running dry, and communities are having to travel excruciating distances to access livable amounts of water. © Marco Marcone
