Street Photography Award Editors’ Picks of March 2023

Following the results of last month’s street photography award, judged by iconic New York City photographer Richard Sandler, we would like to share some of the competition entries that didn’t make it to the final round but nevertheless showed remarkable dexterity, creativity, and skill.

Candid moments of quotidian life; meticulously timed and framed scenes, and unexpected situations: we had the pleasure of discovering compelling street images from across the globe, and it was truly inspiring to see photographers respond to the theme in such a diversity of ways.

I spent many afternoons on the chaotic Howrah bridge in Calcutta before getting a well-composed photo, and where the light of the last rays of the evening gives the whole a certain vintage touch. © Andrés Ramos

Every year Manchester organise street Caribbean Carnival which is a celebration of culture, community & music. “Lost in Grand Central” - New York, USA
New York City is my favorite place to take photos, and I always arrive by train at Grand Central Terminal. And sometimes, at the right time of the day and if you’re lucky, you’ll witness shafts of light that seem to single out a particular subject. It was interesting to divide the frame in two worlds. In the first world we see the loneliness of the subject taking cover from the rain. And in the second world some pelicans sailing along with some boats also in solitude. © Matías Fuentes
