Landscape Award Editors’ Picks of November 2025

Last month’s Landscape Award, overseen by world-renowned National Geographic photographer Jim Richardson, showcased some truly remarkable winners and finalists. But the story doesn’t end there! We’re excited to present a gallery of extraordinary images that, while undoubtedly beautiful, just missed the final cut.

Snow-covered trees stand like frozen sentinels across the wintry terrain of northern Finland; tufts of golden grass punctuate the dry Andean plain as a lone volcanic peak rises beneath sweeping, otherworldly clouds; scarlet poppies ripple across rolling Tuscan hills as cypress-lined ridges glow in the warm, slanting light; and traffic trails sweep like glowing ribbons across Bixby Bridge, its soaring arch watching over the rugged California coast as dawn settles softly over the Pacific.

The quality of submissions was truly breathtaking, and we’re so grateful to everyone who shared their vision with us. Thank you for being so passionate about capturing the diverse beauty of our world!

"Silence & solitude” - Sápmi, Sweden, 2025
From the series ‘silence & solitude’. “In a world that is constantly filled with noise, I’m in a constant search for silence, peace, and simplicity. The silence in these landscapes is sometimes deafening. Most people run away from it. I run towards it. Always on the hunt for those foggy mornings, on a mountain top, surrounded by nothing but nature and hearing nothing but the wind and the occasional bird. Letting the fog cover me like a soft blanket, seeing it take away the rough edges of everything, and admiring the softness it adds to my world. © Anneke Vande Voorde
“Fall foliage in the Tatras” - Poland/Slovakia
At the border of Poland and Slovakia, the Tatra mountains range becomes a paradise for landscape photography when Autumn finally hits. Pink hues of the twilight reflect on the first hints of snow, while the foliage turns gold, orange, and red in the valley. Taken in October 2025, at a secret location. © Charles Barbe
“Bow Flowers” - Bow Lake, Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada

“Pulse” - California, USA
Bixby Bridge, on the California Coast, is one of the tallest single-span arch bridges in the world. This image was captured with a 7-minute automated frame average at sunrise in January 2024. The disappearing traffic trails along the cliffs exacerbate the curves of the Pacific Coast Highway. © David Shedlarz
“Honeymoon Lake” - Jasper National Park Canada
The Icefields Parkway is 227 km of mountain road built between Jasper and Lake Louise in Banff National Park. It is rated as one of the top drives in the world by Condé Nast Traveller. Open year-round, it offers a 232 km stretch of double-lane highway with soaring rocky mountain peaks, icefields, a variety of wildlife, birds, and vast sweeping valleys. © HaeJoon Shin
“San Pedro” - San Pedro de Atacama - Chile
San Pedro de Atacama is a town set on an arid high plateau in the Andes mountains of northeastern Chile. Its dramatic surrouding landscape incorporates desert, salt flats, volcanoes, geysers and hot springs. “Summer on Tahoma” - Mt Rainier National Park
Mount Rainier National Park, a 369-sq.-mile Washington state reserve southeast of Seattle, surrounds glacier-capped, 14,410-ft. Mount Rainier. Atop 6,400-ft.-high Sunrise, the highest point in the park reachable by car, visitors can admire Rainier and other nearby volcanoes, including Mount Adams. The park’s 5,400-ft.-high Paradise overlook offers mountain views, summertime wildflower meadows and hiking trailheads. © Lauren Puyleart
“Frozen Finland” - Finland, January 2025
Captured in the Riisitunturi National Park in northern Finland, this image reflects the quiet intensity of one of the coldest months of the year. With only a few hours of daylight, the landscape is shaped by low light, bitter temperatures, and the park’s iconic, heavily snow-laden trees. © Mario Walker
“Isola” - Engadin, Switzerland
The conditions in the late afternoon couldn't have been better for this shot I presume. The golden larches glowing and being backlit from the low sun and the haze forming more and more over the lake in the valley. I spent quite some time at this spot and framed multiple compositions. And waited for the sun to get lower and cast longer shadows of the trees. © Michael Schmidmeister
