The Arbore of Chew Bahir, Ethiopia
The Arbore are arguably one of the most beautiful tribes. Adorned with beads and head scarves they take real pride in their appearance. Like so many of the tribes they are pastoralists and live with a small ecological footprint in the area of Lake Stefanie or Chew Bahir. These tribal groups are all under threat from the Gibe III dam depriving them of water, agribusiness which through the government has taken their land, deliberate acculturation, imposition of religions which are alien to them, more roads and therefore more access, insensitive tourism, westernisation as traders venture into the area and telecommunications.
