The Suri
The Suri live in the Northern Omo valley and are closely connected to the Mursi in Mago National park and the Kachipo in South Sudan. They are pastoralists pursuing a subsistence and sustainable life in an area which, until recently, was very isolated. These tribal groups are all under threat from the Gibe III dam depriving them of water, agribusiness which through the government has taken their land, deliberate acculturation, imposition of religions which are alien to them, more roads and therefore more access, insensitive tourism, westernisation as traders venture into the area and telecommunications.
