Street Photography Award Editors’ Picks of May 2022

“If you can smell the street by looking at the photo, it’s a street photograph.” – Bruce Gilden

Following the results of last month’s street photography award, judged by acclaimed Magnum photographer Bruce Gilden, we would like to share some of the competition entries that didn’t make it to the final round but nevertheless showed remarkable dexterity, creativity, and skill.

Candid moments of quotidian life; meticulously timed and framed scenes, and unexpected situations: we had the pleasure of discovering compelling street images from across the globe, and it was truly inspiring to see photographers respond to the theme in such a diversity of ways.

Using both digital and analog and a litany of classic and experimental techniques, photographers displayed remarkable versatility and an extraordinary eye for composition, and it is our delight and pleasure to feature these 12 extraordinary works.

Published June 16, 2022 - Congratulations to all selected artists: Greg Mo, Mithail Afrige Chowdhury, Russ Rowland, Hersley-Ven Casero, Luning Cao, Roberto Carnevali, Jonathan Jasberg, Juan Carlo Calingo, Suresh Naganathan, Mark Walsh, Branden May, Kim Aldis,
