Street Photography Award Editors’ Picks of September 2024

Following the results of last month’s street photography award, judged by American travel and documentary photographer Jonathan Jasberg, we’re excited to share some of the competition entries that, while not making it to the final round, displayed remarkable artistry and skill.

It was truly inspiring to see the diverse ways participants responded to the theme and, while these photos may not have taken the top prize, they undoubtedly deserve recognition for their quality, creativity and vision.

“The fish market” - Yangoon, Myanmar 2017
This image captures a vibrant moment from the bustling fish market in Yangon, where the rhythm of daily life unfolds amid colorful stacks of crates and the constant flow of workers. The vivid red and yellow boxes stand tall, creating a striking contrast with the overcast sky, while the people, dressed in traditional Burmese attire, move with purpose. One woman in the foreground has her face adorned with thanaka, a local paste that symbolizes the deep cultural heritage of Myanmar. I wanted to capture not just the activity, but the essence of the place – a blend of the old and the new, where the energy of the sea meets the land in a vivid, ever-changing tableau.
