Portrait A photography project by Mattia Passarini

“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.”
— Marcel Proust

Italian photographer Mattia Passarini has been living in Asia since 2006 where he has been able to document the life of some of the most secluded indigenous populations inhabiting this part of the world. His passion for photographing the habits, rituals, and traditions of disappearing cultures netted him a 2016 National Geographic Travel Photographer of the Year title.

In these photographs: Traditional dresses, tattoos, ornate jewellery and body modification are proudly displayed.

As the world becomes increasingly globalised, connected through mass media and technology, Mattia’s Portrait work is a precious testament to these vanishing cultures.
