Vietnam is a fascinating and beautiful nation, shaped by a tumultuous history and a rich cultural heritage. For years, many in the West viewed the country through the lens of conflict, as images captured by photojournalists during the Vietnam War shaped its global perception. However, in recent decades, Vietnam has emerged from that shadow, with a new generation of image-makers capturing the essence of this unique and beautiful land.

Last month’s street photography award, judged by photographer and New York Times photo editor Mikko Takkunen, left a lasting impression, and while these submissions didn’t make the final cut, we’re delighted to give them a spotlight.
