Jury's Feedback
1ST PRIZE: Subhran Karmakar
“Sometimes, you don’t need to ask yourself how the photographer did it. The photo is just there, and everything is in it. He knew how to capture the moment. The spontaneous composition, the minimalist atmosphere, the poetry, the visual power, the essence of the situation… Everything is invited into the image. This precise instant offers a magnificent duality between the suspended body and its shadow on the water.”— Pierrot Men
2ND PRIZE: Chan Kim
“A Harvest of love in a fishing net, displaying harmony between man and his environment. Fluidity, softness, balance, every detail transforms this everyday scene into a poem filled with serenity, touching and transforming those looking at it”—Pierrot Men
3RD PRIZE: Yusuf Eminoglu
“A breathtaking image, a triumph of texture, composition, and monochrome tones. The interplay of movement and stillness creates a captivating scene: boys and buffaloes bask in the warmth of the water, shrouded in steam, while beyond them, the dark figure of a lone horseman stands like a silent sentinel, with snow-speckled landscapes fading into the background. It is a timeless image that showcases the enduring power of black-and-white photography, for this moment could belong to today or a century ago.”– The Independent Photographer Editors

Judge: Pierrot Men
Malagasy photographer Pierrot Men has spent more than four decades capturing deeply compelling, monochrome images that distil the unique essence of his homeland. A master chronicler of everyday life and one of the few remaining exponents of the ‘humanist’ style of the 20th century, he is a household name in Madagascar and has also earned acclaim internationally. He has exhibited in cities across the globe including Tokyo, Paris, and San Francisco. In 1994, he published his first book, People of Tana, with French photographer Bernard Descamps. He continues to live and work in Madagascar, where he runs the country’s largest photo studio and lab.
